Aspen (her show name is Colorado Sparkles) is a gorgeous and talented Thoroughbred mare who was never track trained or raced. She got a great start as a sport horse with a trainer in Aiken at 6 yrs. old. She was bought by a teen client of Platinum Farms in 2015 as an event horse. That client has now moved on after college and we need to find a new home for Aspen.
Aspen is as talented as she is beautiful. Super easy to ride with light, forward gaits. She is an amazing jumper and jumps in almost perfect form every time, rarely touching a rail. She is not strong or hot and does not pull or rush to the fences.
She is a very brave show jumper and would do well in a regular H/J program.
She also goes xc, but is a bit less confident out on xc than in a sj arena. She will go around xc fine but tends to be more tentative so needs a stronger rider xc than she does show jumping.
She likes a light rider who isn't "in her face" all of the time (who does?). She does not have to be held to the jumps but is fine with supportive contact. She gets her changes most of the time with a rider who knows how to ride for the change (see show jump round from Rebecca Farm). She likes a still rider with a lighter seat. She accepts the leg well but does not need heavy aids (she is a mare after all!)
She is a beautiful mover who is good in the bridle. She can collect into the contact or go on a looser rein. At the events, she was consistent in getting good dressage scores.
She has attended many shows, clinics, etc.
At this point in her life, we feel she would like more of an H/J program than an eventing program though she would be fun for someone who likes to dabble in schooling xc some times. She also enjoys going out on the trail with friends.
She is comfortable jumping up to 3 ft. and is sound on regular maintenance (hocks and stifles injected once/year).
She is not overly sensitive and loves being groomed and doted on. she stands perfect for the farrier and loads in the trailer well with other horses. She stands well in cross ties or straight tied. She is easy to deal with on the ground and in general.
She is an easy keeper. She has a good appetite and has never colicked or had ulcers. She is turned out daily in a group of 6 mares and comes into a shedrun at night but would love a stall as well. She does best in a regular varied program of 4 rides or more per week. She is currently on hormone therapy to keep help keep her focused at our busy barn with many horses, but she does not necessarily need to be. We routinely use hormone therapy on all of our mares.
She is currently sound and healthy in a regular professional program 4 days per week.
Though Aspen is well trained, she has always been ridden by experienced riders and prefers that, so she is not suitable for a beginner rider at this time.
